               Downtown, Mexico City

        There is a child

        cold, afraid,

        wrapped in mother’s shawl tight.

        There is a mother

        cold, afraid,

wrapped in the shawl of night.

Science Skills Day

science.jpgOn Friday you participated in Science Skills Day.  You performed different experiments on mixture/solution, erosion, and balance/motion.  Analyze the experiments and select your favorite.  Explain why it was your favorite.  Order the scientific process you followed in your favorite experiment.  Remember to use the science vocabulary words you learned, like: balance, equilibrium, balance point, mixture, solution, erosion, etc.  I can’t wait to read about your hypotheses and conclusions!!

Measurement – linear, mass, volume

measurement.jpg

In our measurement unit, so far we’ve talked about linear, mass, and volume.  Give me at least two units of measure we use for each.  Then answer the following questions:

1.      Is measuring the soccer field linear, mass or volume?

2.      Is measuring how much milk is in a pitcher linear, mass or volume?

3.      Is measuring how much my dog weighs linear, mass or volume?

4.      What unit of measurement would you use to measure how long the soccer field is, feet or yards?

5.      What unit of measurement would you use to measure how much soda is in a can, ounces or gallons?

6.      What unit of measurement would you use to measure how much you weigh, ounces or pounds?

My Diary from Here to There

We have been reading a great book called, “My Diary from Here to There”.  It is about a girl who has a diary that she writes in every day.  She treats her diary like her friend.  Sometimes she writes in her diary about something she did that day, sometimes she writes in her diary about something she is worried about, and sometimes she writes in her diary about something she is planning to do.  If you had a diary, what would you tell it?  Write a diary entry here . . . remember to start it, “Dear Diary”.

. . y recuérdate de empezar con ”Querido Diario”.
